Cabotage Day is a national holiday celebrated annually on July 1st in Turkey. Cabotage refers to the right of a country to conduct maritime transportation between its own ports.

• The Cabotage Law came into effect on July 1, 1926. This law reserved maritime transportation and port operations within Turkey's territorial waters exclusively for Turkish citizens and ships flying the Turkish flag.
• This law ended the privileges previously granted to foreign ships during the Ottoman Empire and declared Turkey's complete independence in maritime trade.

Reasons for Celebrating Cabotage Day:

• The Cabotage Law granted Turkish citizens the right to conduct maritime transportation within Turkey's own waters. This was an important step for independence and sovereignty in the field of maritime affairs.
• The law liberated Turkish maritime trade from foreign influences, contributing to the development of the national economy.
• The Cabotage Law facilitated the growth and development of the Turkish maritime sector, helping increase local ship production and maritime transportation.
• This holiday aims to spread maritime culture and awareness within society.

• Maritime events are organized in port cities, especially in major cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, Mersin, and Antalya. These events include sailing races, maritime shows, parades with boats, and diving demonstrations.
• Official ceremonies, speeches, and various events are held to celebrate the achievement of cabotage rights.
• Various entertainment and cultural activities are organized with public participation. Concerts, folk dances, and exhibitions are also part of these celebrations.

Cabotage Day is an important national holiday that celebrates Turkey's independence and sovereignty in the field of maritime affairs and aims to spread maritime culture and awareness within society.
